Shepparton greyhound training stalwart Doug Ferremi has died, aged 79.
Ferremi – affectionately known as “Dougie” – passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, March 4.
He was a beloved husband to Lorraine and loving father to Rowan, Melissa and Narelle.
Ferremi was well known in greyhound racing circles as the trainer of champion sprinter Highly Blessed, who was inducted into the AGRA Hall of Fame in 2000.
Highly Blessed won 38 races from 55 starts and retired in May 1992 as Australia’s then highest stakes earner with $294,565.
Her major race highlights were victories in the 1990 Melbourne Cup, 1991 Golden Easter Egg and 1991 Adelaide Cup.
