GRV VBIS Maiden Final Preview: Moreira to Give Rivals Plenty

Feature Greyhound Racing heads to Shepparton tonight with the final of the GRV Vic Breeders for Maidens over the 450 worth $7,500 to the winner.
.
Race 5 on the program is the feature race and we see a cracking field assembled. Favourite will indeed be the Jason Thompson trained Moreira. He has been quite brilliant in his heat and semi wins starting from the outside both times, although he may find it a little tricky in Box 6, as he needs a little room early to get warm. If he gets any sort of luck he will be very, very hard to beat. In six months time he might be something special.
.
Main danger for mine is Dr. Valhalla who will be good odds. He won his heat really well before running a nice race after missing away in his semi last week. From the inside box I expect him to be up there early and he can certainly make his presence felt if the fave finds any trouble. It is a pretty open race with a number of others given strong winning chances including the Darren Pattinson trained duo Absolute Silence and Unlawful Entry. In particular the latter who has been dominant in his heat and semi wins but like the favourite will need luck in the early part.
.
Crave, who is a model of consistency but finds it hard to win as his record of 8 placings form 12 starts suggests, and the two greyhounds drawn wide from the Joe Borg kennel Lee Brilliance and Redhot Pursuit are certainly right in play too. It will be a ripping race, no doubt about that, but I just think Moreira might be too good for them.

On what shapes up as a wonderful night of racing there are certainly a couple of other strong races I think we can find the winner of. Aston Dawn in Race 2 I think is a ‘special’. She isn’t very fast away but has a big motor and a big finish when she warms up and I think she will be too strong for them here.
.
She will probably be short odds but it should build a bank for the rest of the night. On to Race 6 – the staying race on the night – and it is a crack field to take its place. I like Seeking Justice, who has broken the track record in a solo trial here, so if he can get out the boxes well enough and avoid any interference I reckon he might be too good for them. Certainly the danger is Esparza drawn the red (box one).
.
In Race 11 I’m prepared to steer away from the fave Gaelic Peter. Drawn awkwardly in Box 1 as he likes to get away from the rail, I’m going to look for some value and I think I’ve found it in the reserve Erratic Lord. Back with original trainer Ian Bindley after a stint in South Australia, he won terrifically well first up at Warragul where he bounced to the lead and won running away in strong fashion. He is drawn a shade awkwardly but if he is fast away like he was at Warragul I think he can lead here. Those drawn inside usually take time to find their feet and get away from the fence so if he does cross he will be hard to run down. He is currently $9 with The Watchdog and he will give you a run for your money for sure.
.
It will be a fantastic night of racing in the Goulburn Valley and I hope this has steered you into a winner or to. Until next time, Good Luck and Good Punting.
